Miko Shibuya sits in a cab pregnant with a mysterious handsome stranger. It's July and she's on her way to the hospital to give birth to her second baby boy. The handsome stranger mentions to her that in his country the name Yuri means July and thus Yuri Shibuya is named. 16 years later we find Yuri a seemingly normal boy longing to play baseball which he has been neglecting in favor of his studies.
Yuri runs across Ken Murata, an acquaintance that he has spent both 8th and 9th grades with, who is being picked on by some bullies for not "donating" any money to them. Yuri was going to just keep going but he is recognized by Ken and has to step in. While they're distracted Ken uses the opportunity to escape leaving Yuri with 4 angry bullies. The bullies take him into the ladies restroom, stick his head into a toilet and flush him. Only instead of getting wet Yuri was flushed into another world!
Yuri finds himself wet on a grassy hillside near a rural farming village surrounded by mountains. At first Yuri thinks he's somewhere in the Alps but when he tries to talk to one of the towns people they run off screaming in a foreign language. Soon a mob of villagers come after Yuri and start hurling stones at him brandishing their pitchforks. Yuri now believes he's in a theme park and is being pelted because he didn't pay for admission. Yuri is saved from the villagers by a stranger on horse back who places his hands on either side of Yuri's head and forces him to learn the native language causing him great pain in the process.
Yuri can now speak in the native tongue and is immediately insulted by the Man with the horse. Now that he can hear the townsfolk Yuri can hear them talking about how a double black, a person with both black eyes and black hair, is really rare and how they can get a reward in the West or possibly eternal life if they capture him. The mysterious man from the cab named Lord Conrad Weller shows up yelling Yuri's name and brings with him a skeleton with wings, called a "bony", and two men on horseback to rescue Yuri with. Conrad confronts the man on the horse calling him Adelbert von Grantz. Yuri gets whisked off by the bony and Adelbert vows to rescue him later on.
Conrad takes Yuri to where Lord Günter von Christ is waiting for them. Günter tells Yuri that he is the Maoh or the Demon King and that he is not in a theme park or in Japan at all. Günter explains to Yuri that his "noble spirit" was taken to earth 18 years before and was born into a human mother 2 years later. Yuri was sent to Earth to avoid an assassin and was originally meant to stay safely in that other world. However because of unknown serious circumstances they had to bring their 27th Demon King home in order to defeat the humans.
Conrad who is a human and Günter who is a demon take Yuri back to the Demon Kingdom's castle with Yuri riding behind Conrad. Günter explains on the way that although Demons can use magic they mostly have to use it during battle. Conrad being a human cannot use any magic. A little girl offers Yuri water near the end of their journey but Conrad won't let Yuri drink it until he tests it for poison by taking a drink himself.
Yuri arrives in the Great Demon Kingdom riding on a tame horse of his own and sees lord Stoffel who was a traitor to the last Demon King. Unfortunately when a bee gets near Yuri's horse it shies and takes off running and Yuri unable to control it winds up being carried all the way into the court of the castle where it is stopped by Lord Gwendal von Voltaire! Gwendal and his younger brother Lord Wolfram von Bielefeld both disapprove of Yuri being Demon King. Wolfram makes this known as he greets his Demon King with "Don't tell me he's the new Demon King!"
